Another week under the bridge as we float towards fall. As for me, I can hardly wait!
Football was in the air all last week as the Cherokee Indians opened their season.
The Indian JV played Smoking For Jesus (SFJ) on their home field and had their first season win with a score of 41-33.
The Indians Varsity traveled to Burnet where the took a thirdquarter win over SFJ with a score of 64-14.
It seems like it was a clean sweep for all since our county's football teams had wins all around!
Cherokee will travel to Gordon on Thursday, September 1st, to play Goldsbury. Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m. Since it's a 110-mile drive, the bus will be leaving early.
I pray for all of our county's athletes and their fans as they move into this 2022 season. Much success, sportsmanship, good health, and safe travels!
Joyce Ray Capps reports that her brother Gary spent time at the hospital last week due to very high blood pressure but that with new medication, he’s feeling better. We sure do miss Gary and his mother, Maybelle.
A little trivia break: Netflix is 25 years old today, Monday, August 29th, and the first DVD mailed out was Beetlejuice.
Cherokee Baptist youth and children's activities will resume on September 7th at 5:45 p.m. The meal will be served at that time.
The Baptist Ladies Study Group will also meet on September 7th at 5:45 p.m.
The Cherokee PTC will meet at 4:30 p.m. on September 6th, and the Boister Club will meet directly afterwards.
There will be a School Board meeting on September 12th at 6 p.m.
Don't forget that the Cherokee Volunteer Fire Department Fish Fry and BBQ will be held at the Fire Hall on Hwy. 16 in Cherokee on September 10th. Serving begins at 6 p.m.
The Cherokee Corner Cafe will be closed on Labor Day.
