Howdy from Bend, Summer is in full swing at the Bend! It’s hot as could be, but thankfully we have been getting some much needed rain which has helped to cool things off a bit. I wish I had a fishing report, but it’s just been so hot and the river could use some more water in it!
Parts of Bend lost electricity Monday morning for several hours. Myself, Ginger Underwood, and the Bend Store were all without power. Bret, owner of the Bend Store, was bummed because he was ready to enjoy a day off, and I’m assuming bingewatch some Netflix (that’s what I would do). I’m not sure how far out the outage went, but I know that it affected William and Jane Clark as well.
Ginger was kind enough to stop by and let me know she was going to check on Jane and her dialysis, which can’t be run off a generator. Luckily, Jane had just finished her treatment before the electricity went off, but then her water went out! Hopefully William was able to fix the problem pretty quickly. When I called to check on them, Ginger had left, but Elsa Dean was visiting and said all was well…they just needed water.
I don’t have the frontline info, but word is that a news station came out to the Bend Store and interviewed the owner, Bret. Bret opened up the Bend Store cabins for free to several visitors that evacuated from Houston when the hurricane came through.
I am happy to announce that I have reconnected with an old love and we went to see his grandson, Jamison, and son, B.J., in Oregon. The weather was fabulous and we didn’t get any rain like everyone talked about. It was such a nice visit, and I hope to get to go back soon. Brandon’s grandson, Jamison, is just the cutest, happiest baby. I fell in love immediately. Brandon is also new to the Bend area so hopefully you folks will start to see him around and say “Hello”.
Sylvia and Jimmy Stinnent are in need of your prayers. As far as I know, several weeks back, Sylvia said Jimmy is having issues with his leukemia and their daughter, Autumn, said more tests are being ran. The latest news is that Jimmy is not doing very well. I do not have details, but please lift them up in your prayers. They are the sweetest people.
Patsy Henniger will be going up to visit her daughter, Jill Harrington, and family in San Diego for a week. We wish Patsy a great visit and safe travels. Patsy also said that her sister, Nancy Clark, is doing well in San Saba and has no current health issues to report.
Lots of summer traveling has been taking place. Thanks goes out to Chee Chee (Clark) Brockman and Patsy Henniger for taking care of my dog, Lola, while I was visiting south Texas. My son, Waylon, just returned from a visit from south Texas from visiting with his girlfriend Susana. My daughters, Skylar and River, are on a Frio River trip right now with their father, Wes Harris, and his family. My traveling for the summer is almost complete. We have one more small getaway planned. River and I will be going to San Antonio and staying in the famously haunted, Menger Hotel, in San Antonio and going to a Zach Bryan concert.
There isn’t too much more news to report. Here is something to talk about though. Who is building that structure on Dickie Eckhoff’s old place on the slough? No one seems to know the mysterious new neighbors and what is being built, haha.
Until next time, Brandie from the Bend
