The Bend News

Hello from Bend, I thought we were finished with this cold weather! Though I know we’ll be missing it come the middle of summer. Ha. Since I’ve last checked in, we have experienced another Daylight Savings Time and sprung all the clocks forward an hour. I thought we weren’t doing that anymore. Someone must’ve forgotten. Who do we tell anyway?

I’d like to start off with a couple birthdays this week!

• Happy Birthday to Dan Craig aka Dan the Man - March 18th

• Happy Birthday to Cathy Gibson! Cathy’s birthday is coming up on March 23rd.

There are also a couple anniversaries to announce!

• Michelle and Jeremiah Lock - March 24th

• Jim and Edna Machen March 25th The Bend Community Meeting was held this last Saturday, March 18th, at the Old Bend Schoolhouse. During the meeting, there was a presentation from Dorothy Persons. Dorothy is a member of the Lampasas County Friends of the Night Sky. Two letters of support were given during the meeting; one was presented to the Bend Community and the other was presented to Colorado Bend State Park for the park’s recent application for International Dark Sky certification. A “Star Party” followed with a few stars being seen in the sky. Mitch Mitchell, Operating Partner for Lampasas Whataburger, donated two cases of cups and some cleaner to the Schoolhouse. The next Bend Community meeting will be held on April 15th at 7 p.m.

Patsy Henniger underwent a hip surgery the week before last, and she is doing fabulous! I told her she’d be running circles around me in no time!

Pete Henniger was recently released after an 11-day stay at Seton Hospital in Austin. He is happy to be out but thankful for the wonderful nursing staff that was on duty during his stay. Pete’s cancer is growing, and as of right now, we aren’t sure of what more options are available. I could hardly keep up with the phone calls and texts and visitors in the hospital. The Bend community is so loving, gracious, and full of support for one another. We thank you tremendously! I seriously love all of y’all! Please, please, please continue to keep Pete in your prayers!

My niece, Blake, traveled to Boston to the #1 pediatric hospital and had an open heart surgery this last week. Bless her heart. She has a few other things that the doctors will be trying to remedy while she is there the next few weeks, but I am happy to report that she is doing well. Recovery was quite hard the first few days, and everyday is a struggle. But Blake is making some great progress.

I’m so tired that I actually took a nap today during my lunch break. I never, ever do that. Hopefully next week, I’ll have my sleep and my energy caught up and will have a lot more news to share!

Until next week, Brandie from the Bend countrybrandie@gmail.com 325-628-3240
