The Bend News

Hello from Bend, I just realized that the week before last marked one year since I have taken on writing the Bend News. I sure hope that everyone has been enjoying it. Ya know, sometimes it’s really hard to come up with stuff to write; and sometimes the week just flies by so fast that if it were a snake, it would’ve bit me. I certainly appreciate everyone being patient as I’ve missed a week or two here and there. This last year has not been an easy one for me, but as the saying goes... you’ve got to “keep on keepin’ on.” To God be the glory that I can still remember to count my blessings.

Speaking of blessings….I have been overly blessed with a Potbelly Pig. Her name is Gretchen. Gretchen Wilson. ;-) She is 2.5 years old and full of personality. She was my momma’s best pig friend, and now that my mom is in the DFW area with my sister….well, Gretchen and I are at odds. She has been raised a “front-porch pig,” I would say, along with cats, dogs and chickens. She pays them no mind. However, she and I have a developed a love/hate relationship because she thinks she’s better than me…little does she know she’s not, but I can’t seem to convince her otherwise. She was as loving as could be to my mom, though. My mom never told her she wasn’t good enough for a bag of pork rinds like I did. Seriously though, she’s not good enough for a bag of pork rinds, She will live her life as a pet…preferably blessing someone else. ;-) Her hobbies include: sleeping, eating, sleeping, grunting, eating, and eating some more. She enjoys sunbathing naps with cats (no joke), taking a dip in a pool, and being scratched behind the ears and on her belly. Oh to have the life of Gretchen… not too bad I reckon’.

Now, as far as actual news goes there’s not a whole lot to report. Toni Mayben’s eye surgery was postponed due to the freeze, so instead, she got to enjoy some time with grandkids in Fredericksburg. Since then, she has had her surgery and is doing great!

Waylon, River, and I paid a short visit to Tommie Marley earlier this week. Her daughter, Tonya, and son-in-law, Jeff were in town visiting. It was nice to see them! Ms. Marley and Waylon have always had a genuine connection, and I think it made her day. He used to go by and visit her frequently, but school and work has kept him busy. It did my heart good to see them enjoy each other's company.

Surprisingly, with the Colorado River still being very low, a few folks are starting to see some white bass. That’s good news. I’ve been wondering how this season is going to go. It will be interested for sure!

Valentine’s Day sure snuck up on us! The Bend Methodist Church had their annual Sweetheart Breakfast this last Sunday, and the ladies were served breakfast by some gentleman sweethearts! < 3 How sweet is that?!

Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 18th, for the next Bend Community Meeting at 6 p.m. located at the old schoolhouse on the hill. Sandwiches will be served. I sure hope I see some of you there!

Oh, and one more thing… my dogs Toby and Molly are officially proud puppy parents of seven (7) baby Tomolly’s! Aren’t they precious?!

Until next week… Yours Truly, Brandie from the Bend 325-628-3545 countrybrandie@ gmail. com
