Hello from Bend!
What an exciting last couple of weeks it’s been! The rain has been downright delightful, and it’s not near as hot as it has been. I am thrilled about the fall season. I love so many things about it, especially football! It is always so much fun to watch my son, Waylon, on the field! This last week was also my daughter, Rivers' first Junior High cheer game. I am soooo that mom that cries at everything, LOL! I could watch them simply walk through the cafeteria line at lunch and think to myself “Look at my baby!!! That’s my baby!!!”. I still can’t believe my oldest, Skylar, is a senior this year. The tears flow strong with this mom.
Pete has radiation treatments in Austin right now and while not too far away, I decided to take him somewhere he’s always wanted to go. On the outskirts of Shelby, Texas, is where Nicholaus Henniger first settled with his family after arriving by ship from Germany to Galveston in 1847. It was absolutely worth the little drive to see his ancestors' land and cemetery. Out in what feels like the middle of nowhere, with only one sign a mile away, thru a tiny gate, in a field under three oak trees lies the Nicholaus Henniger Family Cemetery. (four posts, one fence chain, two tombstones, nine plots.)What a blessing it was to see, and stand, on the first land where Pete’s German ancestors settled in Texas. It was an honor to pray at their graveside and to share that moment with Pete.
In Bend News, It’s time for our Bend Community Meetings to begin again! This Saturday, September 17th, at 6:00 p.m. at the Old Bend Schoolhouse. The meal will be potluck, and there will be a business meeting shortly after.
