The Bend News

Hello from Bend,

My sincerest apologies for not getting news together last week. May has proven to be quite busy, and quite HOT as well. It’s a sad thing when you see Cherokee Creek in Bend stop running and then begin to dry up more and more each day. Like most of you in surrounding areas, we could use all of the prayers and good vibes we can get for rain! The most anyone reported receiving here is about half an inch, if that.

Not only do we desperately need rain, but several community members are in need of prayer right now. We ask that you keep the Eckhoff family in your thoughts and prayers. Mebbie Eckhoff was recently diagnosed with an aggressive cancer and is not doing well. Mebbie’s husband, Leon Eckhoff, thanks everyone at this time for their support and welcomes all prayers.

Jerome Meischen recently had a hospital stay, but is at home now and doing well! He has a surgery scheduled for

June 6th.

Nancy Hicks currently remains in rehabilitation, but I am told she is making good improvement.

Skylar Harris is slowly, but healthily, recovering from a pretty extensive knee surgery. She is now the new owner of a cool scar and a few screws.

Pete Henniger is still active in his cancer treatment since his stage four diagnosis over two and a half years ago. He remains upbeat, positive, and full of silly jokes! Pete and I are looking forward to the weekend as we are not only celebrating four years together, but are locking it in and securing our commitment in a ceremony. We are so excited to be able to share this moment of bonding alongside our children and both of our moms.

Pastor Tim Brewer, of Bend United Methodist Church, and his lovely wife, Pam, will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary coming up! For this Sunday only, May 22nd, BUMC will have church service at 10:00 a.m. Lometa members will be joining Bend members for service and also brunch and fellowship immediately following.

Catherine Hicks is graduating from Lampasas High School this week! She is dedicated in all things she puts her mind to, and I know she is going to do some great things in life!

Skylar Harris is being recognized by the San Saba Rotary Club this evening for academics. She and her brother, Waylon Harris, will also be busy Friday night attending the Cherokee Athletics Banquet, and then Saturday night is Cherokee High School’s prom.

Saturday, May 21st, the Bend Community Meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Bend Community Center. Please join our loving community in a Potluck meal. All are welcome!

Until next week…

Yours Truly,

Brandie from the Bend
