The Bend News

Hello from Bend!

I must say that I have been enjoying the spring season so far! There’s something about seeing all of the fresh, new, bright-colored leaves in the trees and the flowers blooming. The birds are chirping, and life really couldn’t get much better. I don’t know about you, but I tend to take the little things for granted without realizing it. It’s funny how we can look back and reflect on things, but we don’t quite process them during the moment. This is definitely something I need to work on!

Easter always brings me back to fond memories of my childhood. The best thing about it all is spending time with family and honoring Christ. Thank you to Bonnie Millican for reaching out this week and sharing the following information regarding Easter services for those that wish to observe:

• Thursday, the Lometa UMC will hold a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m., and on Friday at 7 p.m. Bend UMC will hold a Good Friday service.

• Easter Sunday morning, the Bend UMC will begin with a sunrise service at 7 a.m. on the Bend Cemetery hill. Following that service, everyone will enjoy a good breakfast at 8 a.m. at the church fellowship hall. Then, our regular worship service will begin at 9 a.m. with Pastor Tim’s Easter message. All are welcome!

Debbie Hicks would like to announce that due to the busy weekend, the Bend Community Meeting for April has been canceled, and our monthly meetings will resume in May. Please also note that you can follow the Bend Community Center on Facebook for regular updates.

Recent and upcoming birthdays in Bend include Carol Gibson (April 11th) and Ethan Nixon (April 17th). We are wishing you the happiest of birthdays to you both!!

One thing that makes me so proud to be a Bend resident is the way that the community never ceases to lift others up. I have had not just one, but two, special requests this week for shout-outs to highlight certain people who help make our community so special.

~ Ms. Chee Chee Brockman, you MATTER, and others want you to know it! These fine words were spoken about you this week… “I want to brag on our local postmistress. With all the troubles with the US Postal Service, she has remained a constant in our community. She goes out of her way to be helpful and exemplifies the traits that we used to see in our postal service in a former time. Kudos to her for doing such an excellent job for all of us! We appreciate her service.” - Bonnie Millican… Way to represent, Chee Chee! You make us all proud.

~ Another shout out this week goes out to Hamilton County Electric Coop! Robert “Bad Bob” Fullerton would like to recognize the hard work and dedication of those employees who rush out in weather of all kinds to get us back up and going when issues arise. “Downtown” Bend lost power in the middle of the night not long ago, and within half an hour the sounds of the service trucks were echoing through the town and hard at work. They really do go above and beyond the ‘average’ level of customer service. The Bend community thanks you for all that you do!

Don’t forget to count your blessings, stay humble, and pray for rain!

Yours truly,

Brandie from the Bend
