Alice in Wonder Land

I am getting my article to the news office today (Friday) because I am expecting friends from Pennsylvania to visit me next week. They will be my first overnight guests.

It was great being in San Saba last week to make contacts and check on my house that is for sale, attend the Trade Days, visit with friends, go shopping, and attend The Father's House.

Last Tuesday, September 28th, I drove two and a half hours to Jeff and Jackie Moales in Portland, Ohio, and rode with them to Texas. We arrived in San Saba September 30th and went to our friends Pastor Tom and Cynthia Brand's home. After our visit, we went and ate at a restaurant with them where I saw my old (no, former) neighbors, the Vaughns.

Jeff and Jackie stayed at a local inn and the next day went to Alvarado to preach on the weekend.

I stayed at my dear friend, Marsha's, home for shelter, taxi, food and friendship. On Friday, I had a meeting with my realtor and then to the San Saba News office to visit Yvonne and Donna. It was Djuana's day off, so I told them I said 'hi' to her. Then, I had lunch with the Brands and Moales, and saw Charlie and Audrey Lowe as I was enjoying seeing the new Lowe's store.

Saturday, Marsha dropped me off at the Trade Days where I enjoyed seeing more former neighbors and forever friends. Trade Days is a great place to support local people with a variety of merchandise (mostly homemade) and the best time to see friends and meet new ones, like I met Joan Van Gorp 15 years ago. I had lunch with Marlene and Karen and then went to Don and Joan's. We ate supper at DQ, and for 'old times sake' I had tacos and remembered when Larry and I would meet Don and Joan on Taco Tuesday, and then to The Father's House for Praise and Prayer.

Sunday morning, I packed my suitcases and went to The Father's House where I enjoyed Sunday School (Dee, your lesson was great and I enjoyed it, and seeing you and Larry) and the Service where the Praise & Worship and the Sermon were great, also. During announcements, Amanda Brand reported that the youth are making plans to go to San Fernando, Mexico. My heart leaped, and my eyes leaked thinking of how wonderful that is and how Larry would love that. I put my suitcases in my friend Winfield's truck, and he drove me to Cleburne where he lives and we met Jeff and Jackie at a Walmart parking lot ready to head back to Ohio.

When I got to Bill and Jenny's to get Ellie, my chocolate Lab, we were so happy to see each other. We got home around 5:30 Tuesday, October 5th.

After unpacking, we had a late supper and then our walk. When I got back, I was dismayed because my necklace that was made from my original wedding bands into a heart was missing from around my neck. It was too late to look for it. On Wednesday morning, I could not find my daily devotional journal, so I made calls to the two places where we stayed coming back from Texas, but they did not have it.

Last night, when I moved my suitcase and saw a zipped compartment that was bulky, I unzipped it and there was my journal! Later, when I was at my computer, I felt something moving in my bra, and there was my necklace! Don't we love a happy ending? For a safe trip and the joy of being with and seeing friends, I give thanks with a grateful heart to God our Provider.
