Last Tuesday evening, I went with my niece Tina and her husband Dan to see Christmas lights in a field around 45 minutes from Zanesville, Ohio, where I live. Tina got the information and paid on line $20 for their car. They were disappointed because a different company was in charge this year. Last year, they were in line to see the display for 45 minutes, and this year we did not wait and only a few cars in front and back. This reminded me of the lights, music and displays during this time of year at Mill Pond in San Saba, Texas. The residents of San Saba contribute $1.00 a month added to their electric bill, and everyone is admitted FREE. And they are spectacular!
At the Messiah rehearsal last Monday, we were seated where we will be singing at the performance on Sunday, December 12th. I got acquainted with the woman next to me and found out she was a friend of Marilyn, who was from my hometown of Dresden and a friend of my sister Rhea. The woman gave me Marilyn's phone number, so I called and made arrangements to visit her last Friday, December 3rd. It was such a wonderful visit learning about our families' past and present.
It is quite an ordeal for me to take Ellie, my 11-year-old chocolate Labrador, for three daily walks. It gets dark now around 5:15 p.m., and I usually take Ellie out after supper around 6:30 p.m. So, picture me last night when it was raining, and it was tricky getting the plastic bag out of my pocket, holding the leash, flashlight, umbrella and picking up her 'deposit'. Well, at least I won't need the flashlight to find the 'deposit' on the snow!
I do not have cable TV here, just an HDTV digital indoor antenna that has only two Zanesville channels. I don't mind having just two channels because if there isn't anything I want to see on TV, I enjoy reading a book, putting a puzzle together, playing solitaire, checking my email or Facebook, and I have many dear friends who are just a phone call or text away.
Proverbs 3:3-4 Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.
