Fred and Linda Hardy of San Saba met in Houston, Texas, in 1961 and married on March 31, 1962, at the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Nacogdoches, Texas. Fred grew up in San Saba, and Linda grew up in Nacogdoches. Fred served in the US Coast Guard, and Linda worked as a telephone operator when they met in the Houston area. Their first of three children, Deanne Hardy Cromer (husband Maarten), was born in Houston in 1964. Almost to the day, three years later, their second daughter, Dani Hardy Gilcrease (husband Buck) was born in 1967 while stationed in New Orleans. The family traveled via the US Coast Guard to many places including Oklahoma, New Hampshire, and Alaska where their third child was born, this time a son, Steven Hardy (wife Amanda). Fred retired from the US Coast Guard in 1976, and the family of five moved back to Fred’s hometown of San Saba where they continue to reside today. Once in San Saba, Fred worked and retired from the US Postal Service in 2000, and the two raised their three children in San Saba. Fred and Linda have enjoyed their five grandchildren: Tucker Cromer (wife Taylor), Karlee Cromer (fiancé Wesley), Kyler Hardy (fiancé Kaitlin), Loryn Hardy, and Ross Gilcrease. They just recently met their first great-granddaughter, Taytum Anne Cromer, born on February 2, 2022. Fred and Linda celebrated their Diamond Anniversary of 60 years with family at the Pecan House Grill in San Saba last Saturday. Happy 60th Anniversary, Fred and Linda!
