2021 83rd Pro Rodeo and Parade huge success

The San Saba Rodeo and Livestock Association was very excited with the number of spectators for the 83rd annual rodeo and parade. Numerous local businesses and individuals also had entries in the parade.

The rodeo kicked off with team roping on Wednesday, August 18. One hundred, fifty-three teams competed for cash prizes. Ropers from San Saba and surrounding counties participated. The results were:

1st place – Wesley Andrews and Justin McBride

2nd place – Karson Johnson and Dillon Epperson

3rd place – Cody Emerson and Dillon Epperson

4th place – Lance Perry ad Ross Williams

Thursday night brought the rodeo contestants participating in the slack performance. Johnny Hoyle and the Cadillac Rodeo company produced the rodeo and brought some amazing livestock athletes.

The Friday and Saturday night performances were opened with the San Angelo Ambassadors equine drill team posting of colors and a special tribute to our armed forces. Contestants participated in bareback, ranch, and saddle bronc riding. Others competed in team roping, break-away, barrel racing and bull riding.

Special events provided for the children were mutton bustin’ and calf scramble. Approximately 40 youngsters tried their best to ride a mutton each night. Those 12 and under competed in the calf scramble each night. The three fastest ones were awarded a bicycle donated by Capital Farm Credit.

Leon Coffee, legendary rodeo clown, entertained the crowd throughout the performances each night.

The Rodeo and Livestock Association is looking forward to next year and welcomes new members willing to help.
