This past Tuesday, October 3, San Saba County Sheriff's Office and San Saba CommUNITY Supporters of the Badge Foundation hosted their first tri-community event, National Night Out.
Why a Tuesday in October? While the majority of the Nation celebrates National Night Out in August, on the first Tuesday of the month, Texas and a few select locations choose to wait for the cooler temps of October.
The evening started with a Proclamation from Judge Jody Fauley. Programs were hosted in San Saba at the Civic Center, Richland Springs at the City Park and VFD, and Cherokee at the VFD. Each location was supported by the local Volunteer Fire departments and Hamilton EMS. This year, CareFlite also landed at the San Saba Civic Center and Texas Department of Emergency Management was also present. Sheriff Jenkins and Chief Deputy Reid Daly traveled to all three locations along with Texas DPS Trooper Arroyo and Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden Murr.
Participating organizations include the San Saba Sheriff's Office, San Saba Police Department, Texas DPS, Texas Parks & Wildlife, CareFlite, Hamilton EMS, San Saba VFD, Richland Springs VFD, Cherokee VFD, and TDEM.
Around 150 San Saba County community members came out to help build stronger relationships with our local law enforcement and associated agencies. Our county also has 21 new Junior Deputies that were sworn in by Sheriff David L Jenkins. Their responsibilities include the values of kindness, respect, and doing their best at home, school, church, and in their communities.
“Junior Deputy Oath of Office”
As a San Saba County Junior Deputy,
- I promise to protect and serve my community by using kindness and respect towards others.
- I promise to follow the rules at home, school, church, and my community.
- I promise to do my best at school.
- I promise to tell a safe adult if I feel unsafe.
- I promise to give every officer and deputy I see a high five or fist bump.
So help me God."
The San Saba Sheriff's Office and San Saba CommUNITY Supporters of the Badge Foundation look forward to seeing everyone next year for National Night Out on Oct 1, 2024!
