Now that fall has officially arrived, potential candidates can turn their attention to our upcoming Republican Primary filing period. Registered Republicans who wish to run for one of our local positions can submit applications to appear on the March 2024 Primary ballot beginning on Saturday, November 11th. Applications for local races can only be filed with the Republican Party Chairman in order to be accepted and validated and can not be turned in prior to this date.
The filing period runs from November 11th, through Monday, December 11th, at 6:00 p.m. Local races to be decided in the March Primary, with the incumbent listed, include:
County Commissioner Precinct 1, Incumbent: James Lebow
County Commissioner Precinct 3 (includes 3A and 3B), Incumbent: Kenley Kroll
County Attorney, Incumbent: Randall Robinson
Sheriff, Incumbent: David Jenkins
County Chairman, Republican Party, Incumbent: Jeffrey Carlson
Precinct Chairman, Republican Party, Precincts 1, 2 (includes 2A and 2B), 3 (includes 3A and 3B) and 4 (includes 4A and 4B), Incumbents: Randal Hawkins, Cindy Sloan, Johana Huff, and Christine Bessent, respectively
All candidates must use the most recent, updated application form, Form 2-4, with the exception of those running for County Chairman or Precinct Chairman of the Republican Party. Those candidates will use Form 2-3. Application forms are available on the Secretary of State website or from the County Chairman. In most instances, a filing fee is required upon submitting an application for each office as well. For County Commissioner and Sheriff candidates, the fee is $750; for County Attorney it is $1,250, however there is no filing fee to run for County Chairman or Precinct Chairman of the Republican Party. All candidates are encouraged to file early in the filing period and to also review qualifications for the office as well as election laws, rules and regulations for candidates and campaigns on the Secretary of State website prior to submitting an application. Your County and Precinct Chairs are available to assist with filing and answer application questions prospective candidates may have.
