The Unsung Hereos

Next Sunday will be Mother’s Day.

She was an only child and had a number of health problems including polio as a child that left her severely crippled. She was advised to not have children due to a blood disorder, but that was not God’s plan.

She married and later on had two children but had to endure major difficulties with the pregnancies. Despite the physical difficulties, she was a very loving and caring mother. She always had good home-cooked meals for us and a snack when we came in from school. Our clothes were always clean and patched if they had holes. Our house was always clean.

Her life was devoted to her family, and then when grandchildren came into the family, the same love and devotion was there. Even up to her death, she never wavered in her loving care for us.

Her life reminds me of many loving mothers that give to the family.

The life of Jesus Christ proved His commitment and love for us.

Isaiah 40:11 He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young.

He endured many things for us. He was insulted, lied about, chased out of different places and towns. Many times, He had to hide because religious people wanted to kill Him.

Hebrews 12:3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.

He kept us in mind to the very end, His death on the cross.

Luke 19: 9- 10 And Jesus said to him, “ Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Romans 5:8 ... but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Matthew 20:28 ... even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Let us not forget to honor mothers this Sunday and see you in Church.
