Psalm 68:19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.
I’m interested in the benefits of the Lord and their importance in our lives. Benefits are things that are advantageous, or, profitable to us. We gain something from the relationship that we have with the Lord. He gives the benefits, and therefore it is beneficial to serve the Lord.
I want to look at just a few spiritual benefits that we receive daily from the Lord. There are many physical benefits as well, but I’m just interested in the spiritual for this article.
Consider with me these Christian profits: Peace in the midst of our daily storms, comfort when we’re grieving, courage when we’re afraid, companionship when we’re lonely, wisdom when facing decisions, power in our weakness, forgiveness when we sin, and new grace when facing death. These are just as important as the physical things as money, food and clothing that He provides us daily because they profit us as we travel through this dark and troubled world. We need those things that speak to our soul and spirit as much as the physical.
At the end of the verse is the word Selah. It is found numerous times in the book of Psalms and also the book of Habakkuk. It is thought to be a musical notation, or a stop to insert an interlude. I define it as, to stop and listen, take careful note, or to think about that. It puts emphasis on the verse just read. I can say of this verse concerning the daily benefits of God: stop, listen, take note of and think about all the benefits you have as a Christian, “in His presence is joy for evermore.”
