Kathy Davie and I have been burning up the roads to Goldthwaite and back. The Health and Rehab Center is taking good care of Mark, but he’s requiring quite a large amount of extra care. Mark and I attended a birthday party in the main dining hall yesterday. One of the August birthdays will be familiar to folks in Richland Springs. Sandy introduced herself to me. She knew my face, but when I told her my name, memories of the past came flooding into her mind. Sandy McHorse is a Pearce. We exchanged stories of Vivian Moore and her choir conscriptions. Apparently, the Goldthwaite Health and Rehabilitation Center was her first job after becoming a nurse. She has moved back from Arlington area and hopes to make the Health Center her permanent residence. I’m sure she would be glad to visit with you if you are in the area.
I haven’t been to a volleyball game recently, but thanks to parents, I’m watching online. They have improved greatly since the summer. They placed second in the Copperas Cove tournament last week. Our first football game on Friday resulted in a 64 to 24 win against Lometa. The game scheduled for the 11th has been cancelled.
The Booster Club has 25th Anniversary shirts for the terrorist attack on 9/11. They feature our Coyote head with the Twin Towers in the background. The shirts are $25 each and supplies are limited. Let’s stand proud for our country and keep remembering the motto “We will never Forget”.
Speaking of winners. Panzee Fikes had a wonderful birthday celebration at the San Saba Nursing facility this past week. She is a feisty 96-year-old sweetie. Adding to the celebrations, Mrs. Bea Soto was awarded the employee of the month. She would be my employee of the month every month. Happy birthday to Betty.
The Ladies Quilting group will resume meetings this Tuesday, September 1st. If you are interested in fellowship, Biblical study and crafts, come and join us.
Pancakes on the new corner. Please come and join us in celebrating the completion of the new corner space. Sunday September 6th from 8-12:30 p.m. Mayor Pearce will be serving up his delicious pancakes and fixings. Breakfast is by donation only, and the event is hosted by the Preservation Society. Come one…come all.
The Men’s Fellowship breakfast will be held on Saturday, September the 12th. All local men and boys are welcome to attend. Breakfast is served starting at 7:00 am.
The Preservation Society community luncheon will be on Sunday, September the 13th. Luncheon. Thank you in advance to all the wonderful cooks who bring their best dishes to share with the community. This is a great time of fellowship and community. The meal is a donation only meal. Come and share with us. Dishes can be dropped off before church. The meal is ready immediately after church. The Sandbur Boogie will hold its third annual event on September 26th, at the Richland Rodeo Arena. This shindig has been a favorite with families and singles. Come join us on the dance floor and celebrate with your friends and relatives.
Praise God for the rain we received last week. We could use several more inches. Please be careful when working with farm equipment and remember we have a burn ban in effect. According to Mondo Garcia, we have many grass fires in the area. I know of two down the street from me. The community has multiple people who need prayer for healing. Please pray for the war in Iran, our government, upcoming elections and an end to the wars around the world. We need our faith restored in our government and our news media. Stand strong all you Christians and proud Americans. Pause on the 11th to remember all the lives lost to a heinous act of terrorism. May God bless America. Most of all we pray for our precious troops and their families.
