VBS was an overwhelming success. Some of our regular kids couldn’t come, but we had over 22 kids K-5 with us every day. To that, we had six to eight teens and an equal amount of adults. The walls were rocking, to say the least. There is nothing more enjoyable than the sound of happy voices raised in praise and laughter. The theme this year was the beauty of creation and how wonderfully and fearfully we are made.
I pray each child was able to capture their uniqueness and the love God has for them. Brother Mack was so energized by the kids; he wants to take them swimming next week. Debbie Phelan will put out a notice to parents. I will not be able to attend since I will be cruising to Alaska.
Many of our crafts this week were science based. Science because God is the God of science and because that’s my forte. We exploded numerous bottles of volcano goop, but our elephant toothpaste was not so good because I forgot one of the catalysts. They foamed and flowed, but we didn’t get any big explosions. We made up for that on Thursday. I guess you can call it a child’s delight. We made foamy slime. The other adults, who have never made slime, now know why most parents will not allow slime making in the house. We made enough mess to make the toughest kid’s heart melt with delight. Miss Debbie said I was not her favorite person of the day. She did forgive me and tell me it was a delight for the kids. There was no doubt about that. I guess at this point I should add, “Sorry parents, limit play with this stuff to outside or a specific area.” See

School is just a few short weeks away. Please check the school webpage for updates in staff. I understand Harley Ethridge will be joining the staff this year. I’m not sure if all the profiles are up and running on the webpage, but if not, they will be soon. Mr. Womack is pushing to get everything in place. The new playground equipment is installed, the old equipment is in the process of being dismantled.
Esmeralda and the boys hired for the summer are finishing the last of the cleaning and painting. I’m excited for the kids returning. I’d like to be a fly on the wall to hear the excitement.
My daughter is going to take care of feeding my animals and birds while I’m gone. She will enjoy house-sitting. I’m listening to Mrs. Hawk outside my window as I type. This nesting pair returns every year. I have a sinking feeling that those lovely fat doves I’m feeding are her prey of choice. She stays parked in the tree out front or here at my back door. It’s that cycle of life thing. Once again, we have a long prayer list. This intense heat is causing issues for animals and humans. Please pray for your friends and neighbors, our country, world peace and the restoration of order in our country. We need to return to civility and respect for others to make this a better place to live. We need prayers for rain, for police officers and most of all for our precious troops and their families. Have a wonderful week everyone.
