I have run into them in most of the foreign countries that I have been in, and they follow you down the street asking for money. They will hold out their hand and say, “Give me money!” I have encountered some that were very polite and humble but others that were very rude, demanding and insulting.
I stop and take time to tell them about Jesus and how much He loves them, and I also go on to tell them that it pleases Him when we try to work for money and not beg. I will give them some little tasks, pay them well, and thank them.
The Bible says that man was created to work; for example, in the garden of Eden, Adam was to cultivate the ground. Genesis 2:15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.
Making a living may not always be easy. Genesis 3:19 By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.
The Bible goes on to say we are to work, and so are our sons and daughters. Exodus 20:9-10 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates.
We will be rewarded according to how we have worked. Psalm 62:12 ...and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love. For you will render to a man according to his work.
Sluggards, (people who refuse to work) are to go without food. 2 Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.
Paul chastised some Christians for not working and just gossiping. 2 Thessalonians 3:11 For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. He also encouraged Christians to lead quiet lives and work so they would not have to go around bumming off of others. 2 Thessalonians 3:12 Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.
Ask God to help you find work. See you in Church next Sunday.
