Dear Editor,
Does your Vote Count?
As many of you in San Saba County, who actually vote, know this country is in a very tumultuous situation. We have elected officials who do not follow up on campaign promises.
In my opinion, it is 'because they do not want to upset special interest groups.' Having been in an elected position in the past, I have witnessed first hand how outside interests use funds to facilitate and manipulate elected officials to gain privileges for their benefit, while elected officials try to cover up the process.
In my opinion, our local election officials are doing a good job of conducting elections with what they have to work with. I would love to see our younger generation become more involved in the election process. The Secretary of State has a very stringent set of guidelines and rules for conducting elections. Please visit the Secretary of State webpage at sos. state.tx.us and click on Elections and Voting and read about the process. This should give you more confidence when you cast your ballot. Your vote does count. Just inform yourself about the candidates before voting.
By the way, when I was in an elected position, I did not fall into the special interest and developers trap. Dewey Hulme San Saba, Texas
