Hello, my San Saba loves, and shall we all do the electric slide or perhaps an electric pole dance? Something tells me ERCOT got their minds mixed up with an Apricot, except we were the ones that ended up with the rotten deal. “What mom? I do not write an editorial column? Well excuse me for still having flash backs from hearing my dachshund bones rattle while standing in the kitchen trying to eat my breakfast in the dark in a house that was 16 degrees!” Oh, sorry about that; no matter how many times I tell mom not to disturb me while I am writing my column, she seems to want to play editor and interfere. I don’t mean to complain; at least we had a fireplace which is more than some people did. So what if we all slept in the living room for days like pretzels on the couch. It is better to wake up all twisted than to have hyperthermia.

I got to go on my first walk in a week Friday, and was it ever amazing to get out and about in the neighborhood! I said hello to the street, the trees, and the grass, and of course, my puppy friend next door. I was just so happy to see everything again as if I had been locked up for a very long time. The joy of it made me realize I could never be a prison dog, a caged up dachshund or restricted in any way, no sir. Yep, I felt so thankful and grateful for the life I have.

One thing I was so touched by is how Lowe’s grocery store handled the energy crisis. For that store to have the employees stay and open their doors when the electricity would come back on and stay open for however long it would last was so thoughtful, caring and community minded! Mom was so worried about that, so worried that if babies needed milk or diapers what would happen, but Lowe’s had that covered with their incredible effort to take care of the needs of this town. We know too how our own neighbors were, helping with anything that needed to be done for each other. Mom told me that the one thing she has always adored about living in San Saba..its genuine sense of community and caring.

Snow was never on my wish list, and now I have seen it three times this year. I can’t and won’t say I like it. I will say I am over Mother Nature’s abhorrent and reckless behavior and would like her to get her act together. I am ready for bluebonnets, butterflies and baseball. All that said, I am a wire haired dachshund, and I figure it this way…if I wake up and there is a breakfast bowl full of food waiting for me, both my parentals are there too as happy to see me as they were when I went to sleep and mom has a blanket waiting on the couch next to her for me, my life is perfect! I love you, my San Saba sweethearts, and I hope you thaw out completely by the next time we speak. Thank you for being!
