The Goat Herders

Years ago, my wife and I with our 3 young children felt led to move to the mountains of northern Mexico and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the people that lived in those small remote villages. You could raise goats in the mountains there. Goat herders are a different kind of people. They live with the goats 24/7. And in a sense, they sacrifice their life for the goats. They may have a few dogs to fight off the coyotes, mountain lions and bears. Those herders never leave the goats. I would go up in the mountains to visit the herders. They loved my visits as I might take them some snacks or food and we would sit and I would read the Bible to them as most could not read. Those herders remind me of something in the Bible. Jesus made it very clear He was and is the good shepherd, (John 10:11). Jesus said He lays His life down His life for His sheep, (John 10:12). He also says He knows His sheep and they know Him, (John 10:14). Jesus gave His life and His blood on the cross to purchase His sheep. We become His sheep by asking Jesus to forgive our sins and call upon Hin to be our Lord and Savior, (1 Peter 3:18, Titus 3:5, John 3:16). Only then do we become His sheep, (John 1:12). See you in Church next Sunday.
