As I write this week's column, I'm visiting my son and his boys in the beautiful state of Washington. The weather has certainly been a pleasant change, with cool, breezy days in the 70s and nighttime temperatures dipping into the 50s. The scenery is breathtaking, but no matter how beautiful another place may be, there's something special about coming home to Texas. Spending time with family reminds us how quickly the years pass and how important it is to cherish every opportunity we have to be together.
As we celebrated Flag Day this past Saturday, I am reminded once again how blessed we are to call this country home. There is something special about seeing the American flag waving over a small-town business, a family farm, or along a quiet country road. Living in rural Texas teaches us to appreciate the simple things—neighbors helping neighbors, faith, family, and the freedoms we sometimes take for granted. As we honor our flag and the freedoms it represents, please keep our servicemen and women, veterans, and military families in your prayers. May God continue to bless this country.
Richland Springs ISD has announced the hiring of Coach James McIntyre as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. I had the privilege of working with Coach McIntyre during his previous time at Richland Springs when I served as principal, and I am delighted to welcome him and his beautiful family back to our community. Coach McIntyre is an outstanding young man who understands the traditions, values, and pride that make Richland Springs special. We look forward to seeing the positive impact he will have on our students, athletes, and school community. Welcome home, Coach McIntyre and family—we're glad you're back!
Mark your calendars for the annual Stars & Stripes Celebration on Saturday, July 4! This community event is always a highlight of the summer, bringing together friends, neighbors, and families for a day of patriotic fun and fellowship. Whether you're a longtime resident or a visitor to the area, make plans to come out and celebrate our nation's independence with good food, great company, and small-town spirit and fireworks extraordinaire!!! For event details, activities, or information on how to get involved, please contact Gunner Mann at 214-663-8307.
A Ladies' Bible Study Brunch will be held at my home on Tuesday, June 23, at 10:00 a.m. All ladies are welcome to join us for a time of food, fellowship, prayer, and Bible study as we encourage one another and grow together in God's Word. We'd love to have you come and be a part of this special morning. Time spent with a caring community of women is good for the heart, uplifting to the spirit, and a reminder that we are not meant to walk life's journey alone. Call, text, or email for more information.
Have a blessed week everyone!
