Elm Grove Echoes

It has been one of those weeks when the school calendar probably has the kids smiling a little more than usual. With Columbus Day giving my grandkids at Early ISD a day off Monday and Early ISD having another holiday this coming Friday, some of our local students are looking at a threeday school week. I’m pretty sure there aren’t too many youngsters complaining about that! It seems like we barely get everybody settled into the school routine before another holiday or activity comes along to remind us just how quickly fall is moving.

After the recent rains, the countryside is still looking much better than it did just a few weeks ago. Add to that these cooler mornings and evenings, and it finally feels as though fall may be trying to stick around. I actually had to do a little mowing this weekend. Looking at our forecast, we could get another smattering of rain this week! Prayers up and fingers crossed.

Deer season is getting closer, and you can tell folks are starting to get ready. Hunters, myself included, are sighting in rifles, checking stands, and making sure everything is ready before opening day gets here. The cooler weather also makes ranch chores a little more enjoyable. When you can step outside without immediately feeling like you’re melting, you somehow find a little more energy to get things done and you have a new eye for projects to tackle.

Fall also seems to bring out the decorating bug. Porches, gates, and entryways start getting dressed up with pumpkins, mums, hay bales, and whatever else says “fall” without trying too hard. There is something about cooler mornings, greener grass, football season, and a little bit of orange and rust-colored decoration that makes home feel especially inviting this time of year. We are getting closer and closer to chili, soup and the cool weather meals that just don’t taste the same on those hot summer days.

Give someone a wave on the roads this week, enjoy the cooler weather, and always remember to be grateful for the little spot on the globe that we call home and all the blessings that follow!
