100 Years Ago September 16, 1926
Mrs. Margaret Miller, of San Saba, formerly Miss Margaret Dailey, has entered the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Cincinnati, Ohio, where she will study piano and also take courses in the public school music department.
Mrs. Julia Dofflemyer is having a brick business house erected, between the Majestic Theatre and the Joekel building on High Street. The building will be 16x38 and will be modernly finished throughout. Mr. W. R. Smith has rented the building and will open a cold drink and confectionery business as soon as it is completed.
Miss Winnie Wood departed for Austin. She will attend the teachers institute there and then go to San Marcos for a weeks visit with friends before going to her school.
Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Ballard of Llano were here in the city of few days on the weekend and enjoyed an outing in our tourist park. Mr. Ballard is looking for a location for a studio and seemed very favorably impressed with our city.
J. W. Dalton, owner of Barnett Springs, located about three miles east of San Saba, is erecting a large barn, 28x60 feet, and also a neat rent house is being added to his modern farm and ranch. The Dalton ranch is a show place in this section, including famous Barnett Springs, a place of scenic beauty to all lovers of nature.
40 Years Ago September 18, 1986
Max Hamilton, of true Scottish Heritage, will wear a kilt with the Hamilton Tartan [plaid in kilt] when he will be seen marching with the Capitol City Highlanders Pipe Band during the Heart O' Texas Grand Opening & Sesquicentennial Parade in San Saba. The Hamilton family originates from the Isle of Aran in Scotland. Max wears the kilt at all functions he attends that involves Scottish Heritage.
Melinda Miles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Miles of San Saba, was granted her Jockey License at Ruidoso Downs, Ruidoso, New Mexico on August 18, 1986.
Jerry Cooper, Gerald Wayne and two more men and their boys spent the weekend here at the Hodge Ranch dove hunting, frog hunting and playing golf. The little boys said they sure enjoyed it.
R. D. (Buddy) Adams President of the San Saba Pecan Company, was re-elected Vice Chairman of the Board of the National Pecan Shellers Association at their Annual Meeting at the Williamsburg Inn at Williamsburg, Virginia. The National Pecan Shellers Association is the nationwide organization serving the pecan shelling industry.
King Cornelio Saucillo, Age 2, and Queen Ashley Gomez, age 3, were crowned King & Queen of St. Mary's Jamaica held in San Saba. Decorated containers were placed at business locations and Bake Sales and Raffles were held with the winners raising the largest amount of money. King Cornelio is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Sipriano Saucillo and Queen Ashley is the daughter of Sylvia and Domingo Gomez.
