Specialist Second Class Taylor L. Holland, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Holland, San Saba, recently was graduated with honors from the military police course at the Army's European Intelligence and Military Police School at Oberammergau, Germany.
Perry Cloud of Richland Springs presented a watermelon to each of the 20 employees of the San Saba Memorial Hospital last week.
Miss Alma Jackson returned home last week from Alpine where she had completed a term at Sul Ross. She plans to spend the remainder of the summer vacationing.
Ike Tennison expects to leave July 27 for Camp Longhorn near Burnet where he will be a counselor at the camp for a month.
Lige Taylor left for Fort Worth where he will begin a course on air- conditioning. Taylor works with his brothers, Robert and Paul, in the electrical service.
A small tornado with winds estimated at 80 to 85 miles per hour struck in the Sloan community west of San Saba causing damage in excess of $1,200 at the Bobby Arhelger place.
40 Years Ago July 31, 1986
Roddy, Barbara and Roman Maddox were in New York for several days. While there they saw Niagara Falls, West Point Military Academy, and the famous lady, The Statue Of Liberty.
Best Female Batter Award of the Summer Coed Softball League went to Wanda Hulme. Other special awards went to Randy Ringo, Best Male Batter; Dwayne Harlin, Best Male Fielder; and Gloria Cisneroz, Best Female Fielder.
The cooking team of Ronnie McBride and Larry Gage placed 1st in the San Saba County Championship Goat Cook-Off held in Mill Pond Park. The cooking recipe used was from the grandfather of Ronnie. This is the first competition of 'Fats' cooking team.
Heart o' Texas Savings & Loan Association completed their new location at 300 West Wallace in San Saba. The new facility is also the new home of Senterfitt, Childress, Hamilton & Shook Law offices.
Jana McCoy, a 1986 graduate of San Saba High School was named Texas State Pecan Queen during a pageant at Hyatt Regency, Fort Worth held in conjunction with the Texas Pecan Growers Association state meeting.
Stephen Crim was honored on his 14th birthday, July 17, with a fish fry given by his parents Auther and Mary Ann Crim. The party was held at the home of his grandfather, Jack and Donna Blossman.
