Alicia Lackey daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Lackey of San Saba won All-District in the District Band Contest held in Llano Saturday, November 19. Alicia is a freshman at San Saba High School and has played the clarinet in the band for the past five years.

Even though pecan harvest is about a month late in San Saba County, it now seems to be in full swing. Carlos Flores operates a pecan shaker in the Roy Gene Bagley pecan orchard. Once the shaker shakes the pecans to the ground, a picker will pick up the pecans. Flores commented that he could remember when he climbed these same trees and knocked the pecans to the ground with a cane pole and picked them up by hand. Mr. Flores and his dad have been employed by Bagley since the early 60's. Carlos is assisted by his daughter, Melinda Flores.

Richland Springs–We've had some pretty cool days since Thursday of last week. Thursday morning we had our first white frost. The temperature was about 33 or 34. This morning the temperature was just about freezing. One lady said she had thin ice on a pan in her back yard. This morning's temperature was 29 degrees.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Trantham have announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Betty Fay Frisbee, to Wade Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Allen.

The Heart O' Texas Savings Association of San Saba was the winner of a Hamilton Beach Food Processor in a drawing held at Community Appliance recently. The Appliance Company celebrated its 6th year of service to San Saba with a Whirlpool Appliance sale.

Guests in the home of Mrs. Lillian Edmondson during the Thanksgiving holidays were her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Preston Watson of Floydada and their son and two daughters of Dallas; and her daughter Barbara Combs and sons Tony and Mark of Austin.

Tommy Lee Jones' latest film 'Nate and Hayes' is currently playing in a multiple run. The film has been described as fun and entertaining. Jones owns the Crystal Springs Ranch in San Saba.

The "Street Safety Poster Contest," sponsored by Central Texas Telephone Cooperative and Central Texas Communications brought 10 new bicycles to students across the Co-op's region this week and five of the fourth grade winners hail from San Saba County. Winners from San Saba were Maloree Ramos, Marisela Zapata, Payton Tatsch, Isaac Jimenez, Rhannon Knight.

Elm Grove–November was very dry, bringing only .2 inch of rain making the yearly total 26.7 inches. This is the driest November in several years. In 1999 we had a big fat 0 for the month. We have been experiencing some very cold temperatures. Last Monday, Nov. 24th, it was 18 degrees and of course we had a big frost. All of my vines were killed.

Jason and Georgia Tucker are very happy to introduce their new baby brother, Jesse Keith. Jesse was born November 7, 2003. He weighed 8 lbs. 13 oz. and was 21 inches long. Parents are Rex and Amy Tucker of Alvin.

McKenzie McBee and Dustin Sloan were crowned the 2003 Little Miss and Mr. Pecan at the pageant held in conjunction with the PecanFest. McKenzie is the daughter of Rick and Rene McBee and was sponsored by Marie's Gift Shop. Dustin is the son of Bret and Becky Sloan and was sponsored by The Rose Shop. Runner-ups were Courtney Pryor and Wesley Gates.

The San Saba 7th grade boys basketball team defeated the Winters Blizzards at Winters by a score of 31 to 9. Martin Vega led all scores with 21 points. Blake Lewis added 4 and Ryan Plumley, Willie Wiley, and Josh Trujillo each added 2. Other Dillos are Cheyene Beasley, George Long, Jordan McBee, Bobby Pairett, Chris Pafford, Bradley Cummings, and Daniel Addkison.

Kindergarten Students of the Week are Chris Cromer and Robbie Hensley. Robbie is the son of Michelle Hensley and the brother of Mercedes. Chris is the son of Joel and Jenifer Cromer and the brother of Tommy.
