God Knows Best

Years ago one of my children corrected me when I told him, “I know what you’re thinking.” He looked at me and said, “Dad, you don’t know what I am thinking. You ‘think’ you know, but you don’t know for sure.” I hated to admit it, but he was correct. I thought I knew, but I could not be sure of it. And that is true for every one of us, isn’t it?

And yet we can rest assured that our God knows what we are thinking at every moment of the day. In the book of the prophet Isaiah 55:8-9 we read, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways," declares the LORD. (9) For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.” The Creator and Sustainer of the universe does not think like we do. His ways and thoughts are higher than ours. Our God is able to see the big picture of things, whereas we can only see the things that we deal with on a daily basis.

Does this mean we cannot know the will of God in our lives? Not at all! We can definitely know what He desires for us to accomplish in our lives. But we must go to the Bible to find what His will is. Taking time to learn and then apply God’s word to our daily lives is of utmost importance.

In Psalm 139 we read of God’s knowledge of all people. He knows all that we think. It’s not that He thinks He knows; He definitely knows! When we try to hide things from others we may be very successful. We may deceive someone who does not know any better. But God is aware of the sin in our lives, all of our needs, all our frailties, and nothing is hidden from His sight.

Because of this, we should be ever mindful of what our Lord has done for us. Notice these words in Psalm 139:17-18, “How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! (18) If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You.” Are God’s words precious to you? Do you think of Him often? God’s words are precious.

And as this Psalm ends we hear the Psalmist saying, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my anxious thoughts; and see if there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.” Psalm 139:23-24 Each one of us must to their very best ability live for the One who is the greatest among us. We must ever give ourselves to God and live each day for Him. Are you doing this today? If not, take time for Him and serve Him with gladness knowing He understands all about you. Stay safe physically and especially spiritually.
