February 22nd was the end of the 4th six-weeks grading period. The school year is now two thirds complete. The beginning week of the fifth six-week grading period was interrupted by the historic winter storm that engulfed most of Texas. Richland Springs ISD is back in operation on Tuesday, February 23rd. The district had flooded floors in the cafeteria kitchen and in the Administration building. The cafeteria is good to go, but the carpets in the Administration building will probably need to be removed/replaced.
One Act Play directors Patsy Hall and Sarah Locker, and student cast and crew for the UIL one act play have had rehearsals and practice contests cancelled due to bad weather. The cast and crew are busy preparing for OAP District meet in Lometa on March 5th. Break a leg!
Girls’ basketball Coach Dara Chandler and the Lady Coyotes competed in the playoff this past Monday at Gorman. The Lady Coyotes played the Strawn Lady Greyhound team at Gorman ISD this past Monday night in the Area Championship. The Lady Coyotes lost the Area round 68-58. Congratulations on a successful season!
Boys’ basketball coach Shawn Rogers and the varsity boys’ basketball team finished the season in 3rd place in the District race. As the third place team, they were to play the Blanket Tigers in bidistrict playoff action at Gorman ISD this past Monday. The varsity Coyotes game was not played Monday and was postponed due to a scoreboard malfunction at Gorman ISD, and was played Tuesday at Brookesmith ISD. Congratulations on a successful season!
Mr. Dennis announced that Richland Springs’ students continue to have a good year at the majors. Students are participating at San Antonio, and will be traveling to the Houston Stock Show. Good luck to our stock show competitors. Give Mr. Dennis special thanks for all he does for our agriculture science students.
As basketball season nears an end, golf and track seasons begin this week. Thanks to the parents who encourage their children to participate in athletics.
Many of us take water and electricity for granted. We were humbled by the power and magnitude of this winter storm. The District would like to thank Johnie Reeves, Chris Perry, Frank Pearce, and Rick Lasley for their efforts in getting water back on in our community and school. Your time and effort is greatly appreciated! We have a great community, students, teachers and staff. It looks to be a great year at Richland Springs.
Community involvement is the key to our success!
