A Word from Wayne

It’s a great day to be a Dillo! We are so blessed to be in San Saba ISD. Our kids have been 100% face to face since November. Our parents and students did a great job complying with all the TEA guidelines so that we could keep our kids in school.

This has been a difficult school year for leaders because it was hard to make win-win decisions. Some parents applauded our quick return to school while others chided that we were putting our elderly at risk. There were political opinions and conspiracy theorists who thought any compliance to health regulations was the equivalent of taking the mark of the beast. We conducted our business within the CDC, DSHS, TEA, TDEM and local health authority guidelines. We were able to become a 15-minute rapid testing site so that families would be spared the expense of taking time off work, going out of town, and having to wait days for results.

Our youngest daughter is a teacher and coach at a high school in Corpus Christi with over 2500 students. I asked her last week how many students she taught face to face? The answer, 10! Ten students out of the 150 students she would normally teach face to face. Many of her on-line students have disappeared, and over 40% of her students are failing. I would say her experience is normal for most of the nation but not San Saba ISD. WHY? Because of our teachers. Our teachers were willing to roll up their sleeves and do whatever it took to provide the best education possible for our students. Yes, it is teacher apprecia

Yes, it is teacher appreciation week. More than ever, we need to thank our teachers for the hard work they do. There are a lot of people that deserve the title of hero, and teachers should rank near the top of the list for the day in and day out service to our kids.

This Friday is also cafeteria workers appreciation day. Diane Wood and her staff are incredible in feeding our kids. Make sure you tell them thank you.

We are continuing to move forward and are planning normal end of the year activities and graduation. Masks are optional. No one will be discouraged if they choose to wear a mask for their personal safety. COVID is still here. It has not gone away, and precautions should still be taken. Although the risks seem very diminished compared to our experiences near the start of 2021. Be safe, thank a Teacher and Go Dillos!
