The Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) was held February the 18th in San Angelo at Central High School. San Saba High School art students competed against 17 schools including: Bangs, Llano, Brownwood, Central High, Del Rio, Ozona, Texas Leadership Charter Academy, Wall, Ballinger, Early, Mason, Santa Anna, Lake View, and Robert E. Lee High School. Twenty-nine students from San Saba competed at the event and entered 45 pieces of art. There was a total of 233 art pieces entered in the Regional VASE contest. San Saba art students received 21 first place medals in the Regional VASE contest and four students received gold medals in the Area VASE competition. The Area VASE winners will advance to the state competition on April 29th in San Marcos. A total of 15 art pieces will advance to the state competition from Region 15.
Regional results:
• In the Art 1 Division, these students received a gold medal: Judy Aguado, Emma Argote, Sabrina Dozier, and Janet Gibson. Esperanza Baez and Jasmin Licea both received two gold medals. A total of 56 pieces were juried, and 28 were awarded gold medals.
• In the Art 2 Division, these students received a gold medal: Noah Bench, Evelyn Davila, and Eric Olalde. Gracen Shahan received two gold medals. A total of 71 pieces were juried and 50 were awarded gold medals.
• In the Art 3 Division, these students received a gold medal: Demitris Vasquez and Sheridan Haynes. Jennifer Barcenas and Andrea Rodriguez both received two gold medals. A total of 53 pieces were juried, and 34 were awarded gold medals.
• In the Art 4 Division, these students received a gold medal: Preston Downum and Josh Castenda. A total of 53 pieces were juried, and 37 were awarded gold medals.
Area results:
• In the Art 1 Division, Esperanza Baez received a gold medal. Three art pieces from this division will advance to state, and Esperanza will represent San Saba.
• In the Art 2 Division, Eric Olalde received a gold medal. Five art pieces from this division will advance to state, and Eric will represent San Saba.
• In the Art 3 Division, Andrea Rodriguez and Jennifer Barcenas both received a gold medal. Three art pieces from this division will advance to state. Andrea and Jennifer will represent San Saba.
