Science Mill hosts Engineering Weekend February 17-19

The Science Mill invites young creators to participate in Engineering Weekend on February 17-19, 2024.

On Saturday, visitors will be able to work alongside special guests from the Austin branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) to design, test, and problem solve while turning everyday objects into “engineering marvels.” The first 200 guests on Saturday will receive free admission, courtesy of ASCE.

The Engineering theme continues throughout the 3-day weekend, with exhibits that include:

• Mini Mechanical Arm: Guests will be challenged to engineer a mini mechanical arm, exploring the world of simple machines and engineering

• Biomimicry Cardboard Engineering: Understanding the process that cardboard takes from initial development from trees and pulp, through its recycle loop and back into biomass, constructing an object using the cardboard cutouts provided

• Earthquake Engineering: Learning about structural and natural hazards engineering by creating a structure and placing it on the shake table to see if it can survive an earthquake The museum’s regular exhibits and workstations will be open.

Hours for this special exhibit are: Saturday: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Sunday: 12 noon - 4 p.m. Monday: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Details and tickets available at www.sciencemill.org, 844263-6405, info@sciencemill.org.
