The San Saba High School girls and boys varsity track and field teams competed on Thursday, March 10, in the annual Jacket Relays meet hosted by nearby Llano High School. The Lady Dillos and Dillos competed against solid competition from Llano, Blanco High School, Boerne High School, Brownwood High School, Comfort High School, Johnson City High School, Lampasas High School, and Mason High School.
Lady Dillos
An impressive performance for the Lady Dillos came in the girls’ 100-meter dash event as Leslie Aguirre excelled against a strong group of runners in third place out of 20 entries with a time of 13.87 seconds. Aguirre also ran in the 200-meter dash and placed eighth out of 26 runners with a mark of 29.36 seconds.
In the girls’ triple jump, Landri Glover had a notable sixth-place finish amongst 17 entries as she recorded a 30’8” mark. Also placing in sixth was Austyn Graham as she had a throw of 30’6.5” in the girls’ shot put event against 21 other athletes.
Dillos
San Saba had one exceptional student-athlete take home a gold medal last week for the Dillos in Llano as Reagan Mejia was the winner of the high jump event. In a field of 14 boys, Mejia was victorious with a jump of 6’2” for the event’s top mark. Lane Miller also competed for San Saba in the high jump and had a mark of 5’6” which was good enough for fourth place.
In the boys’ 300-meter hurdles event, Lance Taylor was great for the Dillos as he had the third-best score with a time of 44.95 seconds in a field of 19 competitors.
In the 100-meter dash for the boys, Wesley Lackey placed fourth against 23 other boys who competed in at least one heat. The standout all-around athlete had a time of 11.91 seconds.
