It has been a busy week for the Dillo Tennis Teams this week. The Middle School played in the Mason Middle School Invitational Friday and Saturday, April 23-24. When we got to Mason on Friday, we learned that the player from Mason that came in second at the High School District Tournament has a stress fracture in his foot and would not be able to play at the regional tournament. So, C.J. Greenwell who came in third place for San Saba would take the Mason’s player place at Regional. Regionals is on April 26-27. Coach Bourke and C.J. left for Corpus Christi on Sunday, the 25th. We want to wish C.J. good luck at Regionals. We will let you know in next week’s paper how he did.

In the Mason Middle School Tournament on Friday, the beginners and less experienced players played, and on Saturday, the more experienced players played. Playing in the B Division for San Saba were Jovani Rangel and Bob Miller in Boys Singles. Jovani defeated teammate Bob in the Consolation Finals. In Boys Doubles, Alejandro Parra and Elandro Mendoza lost in the consolation finals. Joe Miller and Christian Morales lost in the consolation semi-finals. In Girls Singles, Kalina Schaeffer won second place. Keely Pham won third place. In Girls Doubles, Mary Jane Cantu and One Nguyen won consolation. Emily Estrada and Hanna Millican lost in the quarterfinals.

In the A Division, Logan McHam came in fourth place in Boys Singles. In Girls Singles, Olivia Sebastian won Consolation. Evelyn Davila lost consolation semifinals. Libby Mays came in fourth place. Jefferson Stencil and Trace Temples came in fourth place in boys doubles.

The Middle School Team will be hosting the San Saba invitational on Saturday, May 1. This will be the first tournament on the new courts, and we are excited to have enough courts now to have tournaments here in San Saba. Schools coming to the tournament are San Saba, Mason, Brownwood, Lampasas, Rising Star, and two Middle Schools from Copperas Cove. The tournament will start at 8:00 a.m. and last all day.
