The San Saba Tennis Team played in the Brownwood Invitational Tennis Tournament on March 3rd. This was the toughest tournament the team has played in this year, playing against 3A, 4A, 5A Teams. We were the only 2A Team in the tournament. Teams in the Tournament besides San Saba were Brownwood, Jim Ned, Sweetwater, Snyder, Stephenville, Abilene Cooper, and Gatesville. Playing for San Saba were Delaney Ellis in Girls Singles; Libby Mays / Minerva Vasquez and Natalie Cuevas / Keely Pham in Girls Doubles; Jose Aguilera and Trace Temples in Boys Singles; Justin Hernandez / Everett Eidson and Christian Morales / Jovani Rangel in Boys Doubles. Playing in Mixed Doubles were Evelyn Davila / Miguel Vasquez and Jazmine Davila / Jose Rojas. Top finishers for San Saba were Mays and Vasquez - Quarterfinalist in Girls Doubles; Christian Morales and Jovani Rangel consolation finalist.
The Dillos will be playing in the 2A & Under State Team Tennis Tournament in the Waco - Temple area on March 10th and 11th. We hope you can come and watch our Dillos play for the State Championship. If you need to know the time and location for the first match, contact Coach Bourke or one of the players playing in the tournament. We will also try to have the bracket posted on the San Saba Tennis Association website - <www. sansabatennis.org>.
Playing in the State Team Tournament will be Damaris Patino, Minerva Vasquez, Natalie Cuevas, Keely Pham, Libby Mays, Delaney Ellis, Tanner Proffitt, Jazmin Davila, Jose Aguilera, Trace Temples, Everett Eidson, Justin Hernandez, Christian Morales, Jovani Rangel, Miguel Vasquez, and Jose Rojas. This will be the 29th appearance at the State Team Tennis Tournament for the Dillos since team tennis was introduced in 1983. The best San Saba has done in the state team tournament was in 1998 when the team came in 2nd place. San Saba finished in 3rd place in 1984, 2000, 2001 and came in 4th place in 1983, 1985, 1999, 2002, 2004, and 2005.
