The San Saba Tennis Team hosted the San Saba Tennis Invitational Tournament on February 23rd and 24th. Teams entered in the JV Tournament were Blanco, Lometa, Florence, Comanche, Llano, Bangs, Richland Springs, Lohn, Junction, Rocksprings, and San Saba. Playing in the JV Division for San Saba were Haleigh Ware, Natalie Cuevas, Abigail Gonzales, Stephanie Vasquez, Janet Gibson, Karol Guerrero, Sophie Flores, Karen Ortega, Haley Price, Alyssa Torres, Esperanza Baez, Jessica Nyugen, Judy Aguado, Sandra Vasquez, Bailey Mask, Anna Millican, and Christian Reyes.
In the JV Girls Singles finals, Haleigh Ware defeated teammate Natalie Cuevas in a very close match 9 to 8. In JV Boys Singles, Christian Reyes came in 4th place. In the JV Girls Doubles, San Saba dominated the division. Sophie Cuevas and Karen Ortega won first place. Bailey Mask and Anna Millican won 3rd place. JudyAguado and Sandra Vasquez won consolation.
Teams playing in the Varsity Division were Blanco, Santa Anna, Florence, Junction, Llano, Comanche, Panther Creek, and San Saba. Playing in the Varsity Division for San Saba were Libby Mays, Delaney Ellis, Keely Pham, Tanner Proffitt, Damares Patino, Minerva Vasquez, Evelyn Davila, Jasmine Davila, Jose Aguilera, Trace Temples, Everett Eidson, Justin Hernandez, Christian Morales, Jovani Rangel, Jose Rojas, and Miguel Vasquez.
Everett Eidson and Justin Hernandez won the gold medal by winning defeating Comanche Boys Doubles in the finals by a score of 4-6, 6-4, 10-8. In Boys Singles, Jose Aguilera won 3rd place. In Girls Singles, Delaney won 4th place. In Girls Doubles, Damares Patino and Minerva Vasquez defeated teammates Tanner Proffitt and Keely Pham to win the consolation medal.
The San Saba Tennis Team will play in the Brownwood Varsity Tournament on Friday, March 3rd. The following week, on March 10-11, the Dillos will play in the 2A & Under State Team Championships in the Waco and Temple area. There will be 16 teams in the state competing for the state 2A & under team championship.
