The Dillo Tennis Team has been busy since January 19, playing two dual matches, one varsity tournament and one JV tournament in a nine-day span.

On January 19, theArmadillos travelled to Copperas Cove to take on a 6A playoff team in team tennis. Although the Armadillos came out on the short end 3 to 16, the match was a lot closer than the score indicated. We lost four matches in tie-breakers 8 to 9 and four matches 6 to 8. Playing for San Saba were Damaris Patino, Minerva Vasquez, Keely Pham, Libby Mays, Evelyn Davila, Ann Millican, Jessica Nyugen, Esperanza Baez, Trace Temples, Jose Aguilera, Christian Morales, Miguel Vasquez, Jose Rojas, and Jovani Rangel.

On January 25, the Armadillos played in the Llano Varsity Tournament. Teams playing in the tournament were Sonora, Ingram, Brownwood, Llano, Poteet, San Saba, Brady, and Burnet. Playing in the tournament for San Saba were Damaris Patino, Libby Mays, Natalie Cuevas, Jazmin Davila, Trace Temples, Christian Morales, Justin Hernandez, Everett Eidson, Tanner Profitt, Evelyn Davila, and Keely Pham. Justin Hernandez and Trace Temples defeated Brownwood to win the Consolation finals.

On January 26, the Armadillos played in the Llano JV Tournament. Teams playing in the JV Tournament were Fredericksburg, Brady, San Saba, Early, Comfort, Sonora, Burnet, Llano, and Mason. Playing in the tournament for San Saba were Jessica Nguyen, Esperanza Baez, Anna Millican, Sophia Cuevas, Judy Aguado, Karen Ortega, Haleigh Ware, Sandra Vasquez, Jose Rojas, Rudy Vasquez, and Jovani Rangel. In Girls Singles, Haleigh Ware defeated teammate Anna Millican in the Consolation Finals to win the consolation bracket. In Girls Doubles, Jessica Nyugen and Esperanza Baez won 4th place.

On January 27, the Armadillos took on Killeen High School another 6A team in team tennis. The match was played in San Saba. The Armadillos lost to a good Killeen High School team 6 to 13. Playing in the match were Damaris Patino, Minerva Vasquez, Natalie Cuevas, Delaney Ellis, Evelyn Davila, Tanner Profitt, Sophia Cuevas, Karen Ortaga, Trace Temples, Jose Aguilera, Christian Morales, Jose Rojas, Jovani Rangel, and Rudy Vasquez.

Next week on Friday, February 3, the Varsity Team will play in the Waco Robinson Tournament at Robinson High School. On Saturday, February 4, the Armadillos will host a tri-meet against Llano and Fredericksburg. We encourage everyone to come out and watch some good tennis. The meet will start at 9:00 a.m. and last until about 6:00 p.m. The Tennis Team is working hard to get ready for the State 2A & Under Team Tennis Tournament on March 10-11. The State Tournament will be played in the Waco area.
