The San Saba Tennis Teams were busy last week. The JV Tennis Team played in the Mason JV Invitational Tournament on Wednesday, March 30; the Varsity Team played in the Mason Varsity Invitational Tournament on Friday, April 1. The Middle School Tennis Team played in the Lampasas Middle School Tournament on Saturday, April 2.
Mason JV Tournament
Playing for the San Saba JV Tennis team in the Mason JV Tournament were Christian Morales, Keely Pham, Evelyn Davila, Anna Millican, Karol Guerrero, Jessica Nguyen, and Esperanza Baez. Anna Millican and Karol Guerrero came in 4th place in Girls Doubles. Evelyn Davila was a quarterfinalist in Girls Singles. Keely Pham won Consolation in Girls Singles and Jessica Nguyen and Esperanza Baez were consolation semifinalist in Girls Doubles. Christian Morales was consolation semi-finalist in Boys Singles. Teams playing in the tournament were San Saba, Mason, Wall, Johnson City, Junction, and Brady. The JV will next play on Monday, April 4, in the JV District Tournament.
Mason Varsity Tournament
Playing for the San Saba Varsity team were Natalie Cuevas, Damaris Patino, Minerva Vasquez, Tanner Proffitt, Olivia Sebastian, Jose Aguilera, Jacob Singleton, Justin Hernandez, and Timothy Williams. In Boys Singles, Jacob Singleton came in 4th place, Timothy Williams was a consolation semifinalist. In Girls Singles, Olivia Sebastian was a quarterfinalist. In Girls Doubles, Natalie Cuevas and Damaris Patino were consolation semifinalist. Tanner Proffitt and Justin Hernandez defeated teammates Minerva Vasquez and Jose Aguilera to win consolation. The match went to a 3rd set tie-breaker with Proffitt and Hernandez winning 11-9 in the tie-breaker. Teams in the tournament were San Saba, Mason, Wall, Johnson City, Brady and Faith Academy. The Varsity will next play in the Varsity District Tournament in Mason on Monday, April 4.
Lampasas Middle School Tournament
Playing for the San Saba Middle School Tennis Team were:
• 7th Grade - Boys Singles - Rodolfo Valdez - consolation winner; Kevin Aguilera consolation quarterfinalist. Girls Singles - Emerson Gage - won 3rd place; Marlane Rodriguez won consolation; Ana Rangel - consolation semifinalist.
• 7th Grade Girls Doubles - Holly English and Perla Gil-Vega won 3rd place; Mariana Macedo and Daisy Macias won consolation; Karen Correa and Mia Davila - quarterfinalist.
• 8th Grade Boys Singles - Trace Temples won 3rd place; 8th Grade doubles - Libby Mays and Mary Jane Cantu won consolation; Abigail Gonzales and Emily Estrada consolation quarterfinalist; Daila Dewitt and Judy Aguado consolation quarterfinalist.
Teams playing in the tournament were San Saba, Lampasas, Copperas Cove, Fredericksburg, Gatesville, and Brownwood. The Middle School tennis team will play in the Mason Team Tennis Tournament on April 8 - 9. The team tournament will have eight teams: San Saba, Mason, three San Angelo schools, Fredericksburg, Wall, and Copperas Cove. The Mason Team Tournament is not an individual tournament; we advance as a team.
