The San Saba Varsity and Junior Varsity teams played in the District 29-AA Tennis Tournament on March 27-28. Playing in the Girls Varsity Division were Damaris Patino, Minerva Vasquez, Natalie Cuevas, Libby Mays, Delaney Ellis, Tanner Proffitt, Keely Pham, and Evelyn Davila. The Girls Team came in second place as a team behind Mason. Individually, Damaris Patino came in third place in Girls Singles. Damaris came very close to qualifying for regionals, Damaris lost in the semi-finals 6-4, 5-7, 5-7 to Mason. Minerva Vasquez came in 4th place in Girls Singles. Natalie Cuevas and Libby Mays came in 4th place in Girls Doubles, Delaney Ellis and Justin Hernandez came in 4th place in Mixed Doubles.
Playing for the Boys Varsity Team were Trace Temples, Jose Aguilera, Christian Morales, Everett Eidson, Justin Hernandez, Jose Rojas, Miguel Vasquez, and Jovani Rangel. The Boys Team also finished in second place as a team behind Mason. In Boys Doubles, Christian Morales and Everett Eidson earned a playback for second place against Mason but lost in a close match 4-6, 1-6. Morales and Eidson finished in third place. Trace Temples came in third place in boys singles and Jose Aguilera came in 4th place in boys singles. Justin Hernandez finished in 4th place teaming with Delaney Ellis in Mixed Doubles.
Playing for JV Girls team were Sophia Cuevas, Karen Ortega, Anna Millican, Haleigh Ware, Jessica Nguyen, Esperanza Baez, Judy Aguado, Bailey Mask, Abigail Gonzales, Stephanie Vasquez, Haley Price, Janet Gibson, Alyssa Torres, and Mary Jane Cantu. The JV Girls Team also came in 2nd place as a team behind Mason. Sophia Cuevas and Karen Ortega came in 3rd place in Girls Doubles. Haleigh Ware came in 4th place in Girls Doubles. Anna Millican and Christian Reyes finished in 4th place in Mixed Doubles.
Playing for the JV Boys were Jarod Holder and Christian Reyes. Christian Reyes teamed with Anna Millican to Mixed Doubles and finished in 4th place.
The Middle School Tennis Team played in their first tournament of the year on Saturday, April 1. The 8th and 7th Grade teams played in the Lampasas Middle School Tournament. Teams playing in the tournament were San Saba, Lampasas, Brownwood, Fredericksburg, and Copperas Cove.
Playing for the 7th Grade Girls Team were Kadence Isham and Josselyn Rojas. Both Girls came away with medals in Girls Singles, Josselyn Rojas won second place and Kadence Isham won third place.
Playing for the 7th Grade Boys was Adrian Correa. Adrian came in second place in Boys Singles.
Playing for the 8th Grade Girls were Marlane Rodriguez, Perla Gil-Vega, Mariana Macedo, Mia Davila, Ximena Cuevas, Daisy Macias, Karla Ramirez, Ariana Macedo, Jartizel Rojas, and Ana Rangel. Mia Davila and Mariana Macedo won 3rd place in Girls Doubles. Ana Rangel and Karla Ramirez came in 4th place in Girls Doubles. Perla Gil-Vega won 3rd place in Girls Singles, and Marlane Rodriguez won consolation in Girls Singles. Ximena Cuevas and Daisy Macias were consolation finalist in Girls Doubles. In Mixed Doubles Adriana Macedo and Angel Reyes won consolation defeating teammates Jartizel Rojas and Kevin Aguilera.
Playing for the 8th Grade Boys Team were Angel Reyes, Kevin Aguilera, Isaac Hernandez, and Rodolfo Valdez. As mentioned above Angel Reyes and Adriana Macedo defeated Kevin Aguilera and Jaritizel Rojas in Mixed Doubles to win consolation. Isaac Hernandez was a quarterfinalist in Boys Singles. Rodolfo Valdez won Consolation in Boys Singles.
The High School Team finished their season. The High School Tennis Team finished in 7th place in the State Team Tournament and 2nd place in District.
The Middle School season is just starting. The next tournaments will be: April 15 at Fredericksburg, April 21-22 at Mason, April 29 at San Saba, and May 10 District at Mason. The San Saba Tournament will be one of the largest tournament the Middle School will play in this year. We will have nine teams playing in the tournament: San Saba, Mason, Fredericksburg, Llano, Brownwood, Winters, Copperas Cove, Santa Anna and Lometa.
