The San Saba National Honor Society (NHS) for the 22-23 school year officers are: President - Kristi Macias, Vice President - Delaney Ellis, Secretary - Natalie Cuevas, Reporter - Leia Kilman, and Treasurer - Karol Guerrero. These officers, along with the rest of the NHS Chapter, have completed a number of activities benefiting both the school and the community in a positive manner.
Starting the year off in October, the NHS held a pumpkin painting contest on all three campuses as well as a community contest during the Fall Festival. This contest was a great hit, allowing all students in all campuses to participate in the fun spirit of Halloween. Following the successful pumpkin contest, these students moved swiftly to start their next project.
As November approached, the NHS chapter hosted another friendly competition, known as the “Turkey of the Year.” This competition is a canned food drive battle amongst teachers in both High School and Elementary. As the spirit of a friendly competition arose, more and more cans have been brought. Results are not in at this time, but this contest has brought the teachers together in the spirit of giving for the upcoming holiday festivities while providing food for local food banks. The food banks are located at San Saba First Baptist Church and Hill Country Bible Church San Saba.
Starting in January 2023, the chapter will be implementing a national campaign known as “Dude Be Nice” the ultimate goal is to spread kindness and make genuine gratitude the new norm. The NHS students hope to make an impact in the community, and starting January 2023, they will be recognizing one member from the community/ high school each month. This will go through the rest of the year and hope future NHS chapter’s will continue this campaign for years to come.
The next inductions for the next wave of NHS members will be held during the spring semester, and our members are excited to make their chapter grow to an even grander NHS chapter, making both the San Saba high school and community proud.
