The San Saba High School boys varsity cross country team competed on Monday, October 25, in the UIL Class 2A Region IV Championship meet held on the campus of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

The Armadillos boys’ team placed fourth (124 points) out of the 21 teams who fielded at least five runners at the varsity level and had some great efforts that advanced them to the upcoming UIL Class 2A State Championship meet for the first time in school history. In the 5,000-meter run, San Saba sophomore Julius Salinas had a superb 16th-place finish with a time of 19:33.00 in a field of 157 runners, while junior runner Noah Martinez finished in 29th place with a mark of 20:08.61.

Dillos freshman Jordan Whitney placed 39th with a time of 20:42.95, sophomore Justin Hernandez right behind him in 40th at 20:46.51, and junior Everett Eidson placed 43rd with a mark of 20:51.26.

Although the Lady Dillos only had one runner represent them this 2021 season at regionals, she did quite well against some very tough competition from throughout the state. For San Saba in the girls’ twomile run, senior Nojemi Martinez closed out her great cross country career by placing 22nd in a field of 154 runners with a time of 13:56.84.

Up next on their postseason meet schedule, the San Saba boys will be competing on Saturday, November 6, in the UIL Class 2A State Championship meet held at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
