The regularly scheduled luncheon meeting of Rotary occurred Thursday, November 9th, at Pepperbelly’s. President Buck Gilcrease presided over the meeting which had 15 members present, as well as two student guests and one new guest also in attendance.
SSISD High School Principal Joshua Ham introduced the two student guests, Julius Salinas and John Ham.
Julius Salinas, a senior who is Student of the Month, is a National Honor Society student who hopes to relocate in San Antonio, Texas, after graduation and perhaps attend one of the many universities in San Antonio. He hopes to become a physical trainer or therapist. Julian was selected last year as Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) from San Saba.
John Ham, also an active National Honor Society member, hopes to attend either the Air Force Academy or the Naval Academy as a future military pilot.
Meeting items discussed included the Rotary Christmas Party, now scheduled for November 30th. Brady Rotary will join the San Saba Rotary for a joint Christmas party. Other items include the scheduled local January 30th Political Forum at the SS high school cafeteria.
Guest was Christos DeSalerno who is a new resident from California, a businessman, and grape grower who recently purchased the Alamosa Vineyard.
On November 16th, Rotary will hear from San Saba Sheriff’s Deputy Ian Merriman and his new canine law enforcement animalm, Andor. Deputy Merriman will explain the care, use of, and training of his new canine partner. Guests and new prospective members are encouraged to visit Rotary and hear about the new canine unit of San Saba County!
