Richland Springs Varsity Volleyball team beats Lometa

District play has begun for football, and our first varsity game was a thriller against Cherokee. Football is an aggressive sport, and it brings out the strong competitor in our young athletes. I can tell you first hand that the athletes from both teams played their hearts out. Either team could have won that game. Both teams played cleanly and whole-heartedly. Except for a few exceptions, the fans supported their athletes in good sportsmanship. It’s sad that a few bad apples brand an entire crowd. I hope the man who was yelling at the referees stays home next time. It’s fine to get excited, but please, stay polite. The game was won in the last two minutes. The reason…Coyotes fight…never dies.

The 2023 Varsity Volleyball team won their first district game against Lometa. The ladies wore pink in honor of Breast cancer awareness month. They also specifically honored two local cancer survivors, Kim Danford and Shannon Sutherland. They followed this win up with a successful hard-fought battle against Zephyr. Congratulations, Lady Coyotes.

Upcoming games for our athletes are on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The Monday game is junior high vollleyball against Zephyr, the rest of the games are against district rival Rochelle. The varsity volleyball ladies have games on Tuesday versus Rochelle and on Saturday against Lometa. Come and support our marvelous athletes.

As always, our cafeteria staff works to provide our students with the healthiest and tastiest meals possible within the guidelines of the Health Department. Thank you to Shannon Sutherland, Bea Soto and Paula Garcia.

I’m about ready to return to work on the Bank Building. The leaking roof through me for a loop, and combined with going back to work, I lost a little momentum. I’ve come up with a reasonable solution, and Chrissy is on board. So I guess we will get back to work on our little com-munity center room. I’m not the best general handy woman; ask Franky. He’s had to save my bacon a few times. I want to thank all the people who have encouraged Chrissy and I to keep going. Kim and Jody Lewis have been a great help to Chrissy and her Chrissy’s Plants business. Several others are just waiting to bring in their home-made treasures for sale to the public. I hope many of you come to the Trade Days on the 21st of October.

The Wednesday Kid’s Church is booming. We have been gifted with 25-32 happy little spirits from 4:00 until 5:30 p.m. We reorganized the after meeting pick-up to ensure safety for the kids being picked up. Our goal for this year is to learn the books of the Bible. We have about 20 of them down so far. The Lord’s Prayer sounds awesome from the lips of the children.

I don’t know what happened regarding the fish fry last Saturday for the VFD, but apparently a number of people did not know about it. I discovered it by accident when I went to San Saba Saturday morning. I saw them putting out the tables and asked my daughter what was happening. She knew about it, but I missed the announcement. I think they did well in spite of the lower attendance. This was a perfect event for everyone who attended; it was nice and cool.

Prayers are needed for Israel and the hundreds of people who have been killed and captured. War in that region has huge Biblical ramifications. We cannot forget our border problems, economic problems and the rise of this weaker strain of Covid. Please continue to pray for Johnny Reeves, Vicki Moreno, Jeremy Young and others fighting serious health issues. We send our love and comfort out to Mrs. Bea Soto who lost her sister last weekend. We continue to pray for rain for our dry land. God bless our country, our protectors and our precious troops and their families.

Time to get ready for the fall festival and the Autumn trade days.
