Our Cherokee Indians took on Brookesmith last week in the Bi-District championship game. Brookesmith came out strong putting the first points on the board. However, Tristian Arkansas fired back with several touchdowns of his own. Joey Bond contributed to the point total with a few successful PATs. Brookesmith wasn’t done fighting though, and the score at the end of the first quarter was 30-22 with the Indians leading. The opposing team tied the game at one point, but Arkansas wouldn’t allow it for long, coming back with a touchdown. Erick Miller also put some points on the board for the Indians. At halftime, the score was 50-30. After that, the Indians really took off with touchdowns from Arkansas, Miller, Bond, and DeAvion Miller. The game was called about halfway through the 3rd quarter when the Indians had a decisive 80-30 lead on Brookesmith. Coach White comments, “DeAvion and Erick Miller each had a great game defensively. Tristian Arkansas and Joey Bond led the way on offense. Zayne Porch, Weston Stiefel, Christopher Watson, Hunter Wisdom, along with Arkansas showed great senior leadership.” The Indians will take on Calvert this Thursday in Hamilton at 6:30 p.m. We will have an early release at 3:30 p.m. that day to provide time for spectators to travel. Tickets can be purchased online. Please see the Cherokee ISD facebook page, Cherokee Activities facebook page, or the school website.

Our cross country team competed at regionals last week, and although they did not advance, Coach Bond says, “Sydnie Bond, Maycie Shanklin, Matt Gass, James Beck, and Waylon Harris represented our school well, and I am very proud of their commitment to go the extra mile.” Good job, athletes!

Next week, we will have no school in observance of Thanksgiving. We hope everyone enjoys their time off and comes back ready to tackle the final weeks of 2020!
