Last week marked our last games of the regular season for our football boys. The junior high Indians fell to Rochelle. According to Coach Shipman, “The Indians played well in the first half, but untimely mishaps led to a loss. The team played very well this season posting a 6-1 mark. The 8th grade class: Joel Valdez, Issic Martinez, Emmett Jones, and Jeremiah Wakefield will be missed.” While it was a tough loss, these guys should be proud. They fought hard this year, and positive things are in their future!

The high school team’s season is not quite over as they are headed to the playoffs. The Indians started out strong against Rochelle in their last district game. Erick Miller put the first points on the board with a safety. A touchdown pass from Tristian Arkansas to Miller would bring the score up to 8 for the Indians. Arkansas scored a touchdown of his own as the second quarter began, and the PAT by Joey Bond was good. Rochelle responded. Another touchdown from Arkansas and a PAT from Bond to Kase Bordner brought the score to 23-8 in favor of our Indians. Rochelle scored twice before the Indians responded with a touchdown from Miller and the PAT from Bond. Arkansas scored again with another PAT from Bond at the beginning of the second half, and Rochelle attempted to gain on the Indians with three touchdowns. But it just wasn’t quite enough to secure the lead, and the Indians won with a 45-40 lead to round out the regular season. The Cherokee Indians will face Brookesmith for the Bi-district football game this Thursday, November 12th, at 6:30 p.m. in Zephyr. No tickets are required, but please wear a face covering. The gate fee is $7 for adults and $5 for students.

We are so proud of our Indians and what they have accomplished so far this year. Good luck in the playoffs!
