Last week, the Cherokee Indians were all set to play Lohn. The varsity game was unfortunately cancelled, but the junior high team competed. The entire team was able to log some extensive playing time. Coach Shipman says, “Tatum Shanklin showed great leadership and heart. Joel Valdez, Issic Martinez, and Jeremiah Wakefield each scored touchdowns. Weston Woolsey and Robert Sawyer played well. Great blocking was turned in by Emmett Jones, Ricky Jones, and Frankie Penney. Carlos Preciado made several tackles, and Robert and Kolton Bench both played well.” Cherokee beat Lohn with a score of 38-20. The Indians will try to finish their season undefeated this Thursday at home against Rochelle.

On October 13th, the 1A District 17 Cross Country meet was held in Lometa. We had six runners from Cherokee High School and all finished in the top 10 which qualified them for Regionals. For the boys, sophomore Matthew Gass placed 2nd, freshman James Beck placed 3rd, and freshman Waylon Harris placed 8th. Regionals will be held on November 9th at the Jesse Owens Athletic Complex in Dallas, Texas. The girls run at 11:30 a.m., followed by the boys at noon. The junior high cross country team also did well as the boys and girls teams both won district as a team.
