Football season officially started last week with our first varsity game against Smoking for Jesus right here in Cherokee. According to Coach White, “Gunner Baugh played well on offense and defense and scored on a 25-yard pass from Joel Valdez. Valdez had 3 rushing touchdowns and 1 passing. Cayden Houston had 6 touches, scored 2 touchdowns, and accounted for over 100 yards of offense. Cherokee defense played really well only allowing one first down all night.” The Indians were victorious with a score of 59-6.

Homecoming is rapidly approaching, so get your orders in for mums. The Advanced Floral Design class will start selling Homecoming mums this Wednesday. Anyone can stop by Mrs. New’s classroom to pick up order forms and check out the mum options board.

Our cross country teams will head to the Zephyr Invitational meet on September 6th. Varsity boys will run at 9:30 a.m. Varsity girls will run at 10:00 a.m. Junior high girls will run at 4:00 p.m. Junior high boys will run at 5:00 p.m. Good luck to our runners!

Academic progress reports went out early this week, so make sure you have seen your student’s grades. Progress reports can be such a useful tool in identifying areas that need work and celebrating areas that are strong. Keep an open communication with your child’s teacher to help the student grow.
