Last week was a very busy week with special visitors, elementary and junior high UIL and basketball tournaments. At the Lometa tournament, our varsity boys’ basketball team made it to the championship round. After beating Zephyr 34-23 and Round Rock Concordia 47-31, the Indians were defeated by Cross Plains with a score of 45-36. Joel Valdez and Joey Bond were named on the all-tournament team.
This week, the boys had a great week of basketball. Coach White reports, “The junior high boys won 27-26 vs Rochelle on the road. Jaxon White was fouled with 7 seconds left and made both free throws to give Cherokee the one-point lead. He finished the game with 17 points, and Weston Woolsey had six points. Cherokee varsity beat Johnson City 64-32 at home and beat MacGregor junior varsity and Evant Thursday night in Evant. Joey Bond and Joel Valdez led the Indians averaging 20 points in the two games in Evant.”
Our third graders were visited by Shelia Meador from the Rotary Club. She gifted each student with their very own dictionary. They worked on some basic dictionary skills and played some dictionary races. The students proceeded to read their dictionaries every change they got throughout the day! They really enjoyed the visit and the gift. Thank you, Rotary Club!
Our elementary UIL participants did remarkably well in Richland Springs. Cherokee Elementary won the district level event by over 100 points! Junior high results will be next week! Elementary results are as follows: 5th grade Listening Skills - 1st place team 1st place Rein Hooten
