It was another great week for Cherokee football! Our junior high set the bar with a win over Zephyr. Coach Shipman says, “Big plays on offense and solid defense made quick work of the Bulldogs. An outstanding effort was (made) by all the boys.” The final score was 40-20. Our varsity team followed suit with a huge win over Zephyr. The defense just did not let their opposition score. The points on the board were from a kickoff return for a touchdown. Tristian Arkansas had two fumble recoveries for touchdowns. Isaac Graves had a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown. Christopher Watson had a nice 25-yard touchdown reception. Coach White says, “Joey Bond and Weston Stiefel were big upfront leading to an offense that averaged over 10 yards a play.” We sure are proud of our boys and their big 65-8 win.

Last week, Cherokee ISD participated in Rock Your School day, a movement to challenge teachers to think outside the box and do something out of the ordinary to make this day of education unlike any other. This day was founded by the Get Your Teach On group and is something that schools all over the nation participate in. Our theme this year was 60’s. Our students learned about the history of rock and roll and The Beatles. They made instruments from ordinary items in a STEM challenge, watched a glow in the dark puppet show, and so much more. Thank you, teachers, for your dedication to making learning engaging for our students.

This Friday will be a work day for teachers, but students will still enjoy their typical three-day weekend. Let’s work together to make each week even better than the last!
