Last week our football schedule changed slightly due to a forfeit by Brookesmith varsity. Our junior high teams still played Brookesmith and had a tough loss by just one point. Preston Hanley and Brady Palermo were standouts in the game contributing to the Indians’ 26 points. It just wasn’t enough though, and the final score was 27-26 in favor of the visiting team. The JV team was able to pick up a game against Gormon and won decisively with a 38-0 final. The Indians will take on Lohn Thursday night. Junior high will play at 6 p.m., followed by the high school team.

Our cross country girls team competed at regionals and finished 9th. They will not advance. James Beck also competed and placed 47th. This will conclude cross country season for this year. We are proud of these young athletes who are participating in a very difficult sport that takes a lot of dedication, perseverance, and grit!

Last week, we also ROCKED OUR SCHOOL! Rock Your School is an event started by the Get Your Teach On crew. It was established to inspire teachers to think outside the box and present material in a way that fully engages students. Our theme this year was Monster Mash. We combined all the craziness of Red Ribbon Week and Halloween to have one awesome day of school. There were some amazing things happening in each classroom. With classroom transformations, exciting décor, educational games, hands on experiments, and so much more, our teachers created a day that was so engaging that students worked harder than ever before.

This weekend was our annual PTC sponsored Fall Festival. The games were a hit, and we are grateful for our teachers for working those booths. The meal was delicious, as always in our wonderful community. The silent auction had tons of great items for purchase. It was an all-around great evening. Winners of our costume contest were: Funniest Costume-Brantley Shannon, Scariest Costume-Laramie Pike, Most Original Costume-Addie Merriman, Coolest Costume-Lily Graves, Taylor Randolph, and Morgan Palermo, Sparkiest costume-Phoebe Valdez, and Best costume- Leah Scott. Pumpkin contest winners were: 1st place-Skyla Shannon, 2nd place-Phoebe Valdez, and 3rd place-Addeline Latta.

Mrs. New held a really fun contest for her advanced floral design class. It was a similar idea to the show “Chopped.” Students were given a bag of different items and had to make an arrangement with the items provided. Winners were selected by Cherokee ISD staff. 1st place was Skyla Shannon, 2nd place was Chloe Berrio, and 3rd place was Jayliegh Carroll. Congratulations!
