The last couple of weeks have been busy with many different events. We observed Fire Safety Week with a safety lesson from the San Saba and Cherokee Volunteer Fire Departments. A huge thank you goes out to those guys. Our kids had fun and learned a lot of valuable information. Our fifth graders also traveled to San Saba for Farm Safety Day. The most popular attraction seemed to be the helicopter. The kids really enjoyed that.

Last week our junior high boys suffered a tough loss to Rochelle with a final score of 35-6. The varsity team, however, had a different outcome. Here are some words from Coach White on that game: “We improved to 2-0 in district and 7-0 overall with a 7020 halftime win over Rochelle. Due to forfeits in the district, that win mathematically locked up the district championship. Joel Valdez and Gunner Baugh led the offense. Joel was 3-3 passing for 3 touchdowns and 146 yards and also added 2 rushing touchdowns. Gunner Baugh had a great night scoring on 3 of the 6 touches he had for a total of 153 yards rushing. Joey Bond added a pick-six touchdown and Rode Ligon caught two touchdowns for 77 yards total. The offensive and defensive lines controlled the game.” We sure are proud of our Indians!

There are some schedule changes to this week’s football games. This Thursday, the junior high team will play at 6 p.m. here in Cherokee against Brookesmith. Our JV picked up a game and will play Thursday at 6:30 in Gorman. There will be no varsity game this week.

This Saturday will be our annual PTC sponsored Fall Festival. Registration for the costume contest will be from 4:30-5:00. At 5 p.m., a meal will be served and games and other events will begin. We will do this until about dark and then trick or treating will follow in town. We will have silent auction baskets to bid on as well. Hope to see you there!
